Sven Verbrugge is one of the most popular and richest Motocross Rider who was born on August 21, 1967 in Schoten, Flemish Region, Belgium. Sven Verbrugge (Schoten, 21 August 1967) is a former Belgian sidecarcross participant as well as a triple Sidecarcross World Champion, winning the title in the years 2005, 2006, and 2011.

The year 2009 was the first time he returned as a driver of Daniel Willemsen once more, with the exception of the opening race of the season when the pair raced together Gerrit van Werven. They were dominant in the beginning portion of the season, however injuries to Willemsen caused them to pull out of three races and their poor fitness after returning led them to finish fifth at the World Championship. In the final race of the season Verbrugge injured his thumb and the team was unable earn any points. Daniel Willemsen however declared already prior to racing that he was going to be aiming to win the the title in 2010.

The last race event of the 2011 season saw the World Champions, Willemsen and Verbrugge, failing to score any points. A dispute during qualifying between the two lead to Verbrugge walking out during the first qualifying session. He later returned to take part in the “last chance”, where the team qualified for the race after all. Verbrugge however was injured during a fall and had to be taken to hospital where his arm was placed into a plaster, ruling the team out of the race.

In the 2012 season Verbrugge was racing with fellow Belgian pilot Ben Adriaenssen, finishing third in the world championship.

In addition to the two World Championships, he took home titles in the Belgian title in 1994, 1993, and 2006, as well as the Dutch in 2001 and 2006.

Verbrugge began racing motocross from 1983, in the 125cc solo class , before becoming a sidecarcross rider in 1986. In his professional career Sven has competed for over 20 years at championships in the Belgian, Dutch and the world championships for sidecarcross. After winning his second world title during 2006 Sven quit the championships, but felt as if he was “homesick” for the GP circus, and returned in 2008 along with his fellow countryman Nicky Pulinx.

Sven Verbrugge joined the sidecarcross world championship in 1993. He was the driver of his fellow countryman Gunther Gooverts, who he raced with very successfully over the course of four seasons. His first appearance was at the French GP in Pernes Les Fontaines on April 4th, 1993. He was the winner of his first race in the season at Roggenburg, Switzerland on 15 August 1993. In 1995 an injury to his ankle prevented him for three months from racing for the bulk of the season. However, later in the year, the duo returned in sixth place overall. In the following 4 seasons Verbrugge was in two lower seasons, with just four races in 1997, and no races in 1998, after Gooverts decided not to participate in the championships around the globe, and only compete in local events in Belgium. He was able to race successfully as a driver with two other drivers, Martin Golz and Gerton Kops, who placed ninth overall and 12th during the season. After a brief stint with Peter Steegmans, he was back for Daniel Willemsen for a second time, and the two finished second overall in both the 2001 and 2000 world championships. In 2002, aside from Willemsen He also raced alongside Are Kaurit, with both drivers finishing in the top four. Another second-place finish, this time with Kristers Sergis in 2003, after his old teammate Willemsen won the championship , was followed by a seventh-place finish in 2004 because of an injury lasting three months to Sergis. After that the two driver, Willemsen and Sergis, became partners. Verbrugge going back to Willemsen for the third time, and Kaspars Stupelos joining Sergis instead. This strategy proved to be very successful for Verbrugge since he was able to win two world championships alongside Willemsen. After the second Verbrugge resigned from the world championship in the year 2006 apparently for good at 39. After a long absence from the GP circus , however, Verbrugge made the decision to return to the world championships, this time with his new companion, his fellow Belgian Nicky Pulinx.

After riding with fellow Belgian Peter Steegmans in 2010, Verbrugge started once more with Willemsen in 2011, after an injury to first-choice passenger Roman Vasyliaka. It is the fifth time that the two are racing together in the competition. As Willemsens passenger, Verbrugge has also won two Dutch national titles, in 2001 and 2006. Willemsen temporarily switched to Ondrej Cermak as his passenger for the first of two German GP’s because of an injury to Verbrugge. Willemsen and his passenger clinched the World Championship at the second-last race of the season, at Slagelse, Denmark, having a 53-point lead over Latvians Jānis and Lauris Daiders at the time.
