Steffen Peters is one of the most popular and richest Dressage Rider who was born on September 18, 1964 in Wesel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Steffen Peters (born on 18th September 1964) is an equestrian from Germany who is a competitor for his country of birth in the United States in dressage. Peters has been a participant at four Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal for the team two times (in 1996 and in 2016). Peters has had success in other international competitions. These include winning bronze for the team during the 2006 World Equestrian Games, two individual bronze medals at the 2010 World Equestrian Games and individual and team gold medals in both the in 2011 and the 2015. Pan Am Games. The horse on which he has won numerous championships, Ravel, was retired in 2012. Following 2012, his international achievements came from Legolas. In the first week of the year, Peters handed over the riding of Legolas with his rider assistant Dawn White-O’Connor. Peters works on an international race horse, Rosamunde.

Ravel and Peters won Ravel and Peters went on to win the 2009 World Cup Final, two bronze medals for individual race during the 2010 World Equestrian Games, and twice be designated as the US Grand Prix Dressage Champions. As of 2009 The Chronicle of the Horse named Peters and Ravel Horse and Horseman of the Year in addition, the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) designated Ravel as its Horse of the Year. The Chronicle said that he was an “natural athlete with a balanced seat and an inherent understanding of the horse. He was also in the US team that finished 6th and again on Ravel. Peters took off Ravel from competition following his participation in the 2012 Olympic Games, after more than forty Grand Prix wins, and in the same year, Ravel was accepted into the United States Dressage Federation Hall of Fame.

Peters performance record prior to his participation in the 1992 Summer Olympics was a reason why he was an ideal candidate to join in the US team. But his citizenship documents were not processed on enough time to be eligible for the Olympic trials, therefore he was not able to participate in Barcelona. Peters earned his very first Olympic medal when he rode his US dressage squad to win a bronze medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta along with Robert Dover, Michelle Gibson and Guenter Seidel. Peters was riding Floriano had a role as an extra in the US team in the 2004 Summer Olympics but was not a participant. In 2006, riding an older Floriano, Peters and the US team were awarded bronze medals at the World Equestrian Games. After that, he was riding TC Ravel which would later become his most popular horse. Even though he was gelded in quarantine following his departure to the Netherlands and having injuries in the year 2007, which kept him from the horse from training, Ravel carried Peters to qualifying for his 2007 Summer Olympics. In the dressage competition for individuals during the Games, Peters placed fourth on Ravel. The US team was fourth at the 2008 Games, but was exiled when the horse of team member Courtney King was found to be positive for felbinac, an illegal substance. As of 2009 Peters Ravel and Ravel had the best scores across all three parts of the highly regarded German Aachen World Equestrian Festival Grand Prix competition, leading them to become the very first American couple to win the designated as the Aachen Grand Prix Champions.

Peters was born in Wesel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. He started riding at seven, and was competing in dressage competitions on weekends. When he reached the age of 15, he began participating outside Germany at international events that took place in Belgium as well as Denmark. He got the first of his horses, Udon, at age 16 as a present from his father. The horse would help him win an Olympic bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The year 1984 was the time he took part in his summer at San Diego, California, prior to returning to Germany to complete his military duty. In 1985 after returning back to his home in the United States with Udon. Then, in 1991, Peters established his own farm and acquired one of the sponsors he had first met, Lila Kommerstad, who bought Udon and , as of 2012, had a stake in Peters’ Arroyo Del Mar training barn. Peters was granted US citizenship in the year 1992. He said, “The whole idea of being so patriotic, of feeling so close to one’s country makes a difference. There are not too many other countries where the people are so patriotic. I really enjoy this about America.” Peters lives within the San Diego area with his wife, Shannon. Their huge dressage barn is home to around 65 horses at the time of 2012. About half of which are trained by the couple while the rest of which are under the care of other riders. In addition to his schedule of competitions and training He teaches at about 30 training sessions per year. His colleagues describe him as “a machine” with regard to his competition and training schedule. In the midst of riding, he also participates in cycling, swimming and tennis.

Following Ravel’s retirement, Legolas became Peter’s main competition horse. The pair went on to compete at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France. Peters placed 10th in both of the individual events and 4th in the team dressage competition. At the beginning of 2015, he participated at the Dressage World Cup finals in Las Vegas. Peters was however eliminated because of blood on Legolas’ side. Later that year he participated at the 2015 Pan Am Games, where he successfully defended both of his gold medals from 2011.
