Born in Hartford, Connecticut of Italian (Neapolitan/Sicilian) heritage, she is a dual citizen of the US/ Italy. She has lived for a time in Venice CA (2008-2018), Brooklyn NY, Seattle WA and Portland OR, and abroad in Italy, England, Costa Rica as well as Brazil. She graduated from Middlebury College (BA, 1997), University of Washington (MA 2000) and UCLA (PhD in 2014). The school she taught in has been UCLA, Fairfield University, and Pratt Institute, and currently is a professor at the English & American Literatures Department at Middlebury College. She was a Copy Editor at ELLE.com. She has also been an private chef and has cooked for Babbo and Babbo in New York City.
