He was a composer in his school at the National University of Music in Bucharest alongside Tiberiu Olah as well as Anatol Veru (1975-1979). Postgraduate studies were conducted with Ton de Leeuw and Brian Ferneyhoughand Morton Feldman (1984). He was awarded the PhD from the Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca in 1999 along with Ede Terenyi.
In 1982, he created his TRAIECT New Musical Group (The Romanian Musical Critics Award in 1983) that provided the public in both the US and internationally, a vast selection of modern works that cover a variety of aesthetic and styles that are characteristic of the new music.
He is the founder and director of the MEETINGS OF NEW MUSIC International Festival in Brăila. President of the Romanian Section of ISCM between 2003–2013. Director and co-director of the 14th and 19th INTERNATIONAL WEEK OF NEW MUSIC – SIMN Bucharest. Director of the MERIDIAN, ISCM-Romanian Section International Festival Bucharest (2005–2012).
