Sophia Domancich is one of the most popular and richest Jazz Musician who was born on January 25, 1957 in Paris, Île-de-France, France. Sophia Domancich (born 25 January 1957) is a French jazz pianist and composer.
In 1983, in an unintentional concert with Anaid the group, she came across various English artists who were part of the Canterbury scene. One of them was Pip Pyle, the ex Gong drummer Pip Pyle (with whom she was living for a number of years) and following that, ex- Soft Machine members Elton Dean (saxophone) and Hugh Hopper (bass). Together , they formed the band L’Equip Out in late 1984 and included for a brief period as the fifth member Didier Malherbe who played flute and bass saxophone, tenor. The group recorded two songs and she performed with them until 1991.
In the 1990s, she also began collaborating with John Greaves (with whom she also recorded in the trio with Vincent Courtois Trouble with Happiness in 2002) and with Simon Goubert. In 1990, she participated in the album Little Bottle linen from John Greaves (former bassist and singer of the experimental rock group Henry Cow). The collaboration continued with Songs (1995), partly sung by Robert Wyatt, and The Trouble With Happiness (2003), in trio with Vincent Courtois (cello).
In 1990, L’Equip Out recorded a second album, Up!, with bassist Paul Rogers. With the latter and drummers Bruno Tocanne and Tony Levin, she formed the Sophia Domancich Trio with which she toured for eight years, including the London club Ronnie Scott’s in 1992, and recorded five studio albums (mostly original compositions). Also with Rogers, she creates in 1995 a quartet with the original composition, including two trumpets (Patrick Fabert and Jean- François Canape).
In 1982, she formed an duet with Laurent Cugny and joined the big group Lumiere (also featuring Cugny). Later, she was a part of Quoi D’Neuf Docteur? alongside Steve Grossman, Glenn Ferris and Jack Walrath.

Domancich began piano lessons at the age of 6 and was a student at her first Conservatoire de Paris from 1968 until 1975, where she was awarded the first prize in chamber music and piano.
In 1979, she was introduced to Steve Lacy, Bernard Lubat and Jean-Louis Chautemps, who introduced her to jazz and improvisation.
