Guy Bomanyama Zandu was born Kinshasa on the 22nd of November, 1972. In the latter part of the 1980s, he and his family relocated to Brussels and was granted Belgian citizenship. He initially studied electronics and then film at Institut de radioelectricite et de cinematographie (INRACI) in Brussels where he graduated in 2000. He produced his first documentary, Papa Mobutu (2000) at INRACI. It was chosen to be part of an award at the Namur International Film Festival, which is a Francophone festival. Most of his films were shown in the Afrika Film Festival a Louvain en Belgique.

- It is a collection of short films that focus on the preservation and improvement of Congolese films. Mayasi, Taximan in Kinshasa is a docudrama which traces one daily life experience of a former taxi driver and mechanic in Kinshasa. The film was released in 1938. Mayasi was a coach driver during the colonial period. He explains the story of how Kinshasa’s city, and particularly public transport has suffered through the decades. In the process, the director focuses on the daily life in Kinshasa which is home to around eight million inhabitants. His 2005 film La Vertu deals with Marie who is raped at the age of she’s just fifteen years old. The woman is denied to have an abortion, by her physician and then opts for legal abortion. The police begin an investigation and assign the case to the person who sexually assaulted Marie. The film was screened at the 2006 International Festival of Film of Amiens.
In 2003, Bomanyama-Zandu created Congo je te Pleure, a 54 minute documentary produced by Zandu Movies Brussels as well as Zandu Movies Sprl which he established that year in Kinshasa and it was the very first film production firm to be officially acknowledged with the Congolese Ministry of Culture. The film was created by collaborating with Congolese National Radio and Television and was funded with the help of the Congolese Ministry of Culture. The film explored the colonial past and contemporary Congo and exposed younger Congolese to a time in their past that was totally inaccessible to the people.

Following his departure from INRACI, Bomanyama Zandu established his own production firm, Ateliers of Production of Films from Congo (APFC) which is now Zandu Films, based in Kinshasa and Brussels. In 2001, he created a documentary about Gbadolite, which was once the home for Mobutu Sese Seko in the region of the DRC which was later ruled by the Jean-Pierre Bemba. The film documented testimonies of the atrocities perpetrated by the troops of Mobutu as well as by the troops of Chad as well as Uganda. The filmmaker was then forced to release the film into the care of Bemba’s security department.
