Sam Benjamin “Shir Yaakov” Feinstein-Feit (born on 27 February 1978) is an American Rabbi, composer, liturgist, musician as well as graphic artist. He is currently a member of Kol Hai, a Jewish Renewal community within New Paltz, New York. He was ordained as a Rabbi in January 2020 by Aleph: Alliance for Jewish Renewal which is the Jewish Renewal umbrella organization formed under the guidance by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi throughout the 1990s.

Feit was a part of multifaith group The Epichorus performing on their first album, One Bead.

While he records and performs primarily as a singer-songwriter, he has also worked with Darshan and The Epichorus. In 2016, his song Broken-Hearted, based on a verse from Psalm 147, won first place in the 2016 Soundtrack of our Spirit competition organized by the venerable Jewish-American media company The Forward. A number of his compositions remain in regular liturgical use at Romemu and other congregations in the US.

Feit started his career in music by releasing his album Shir (2008) which was then followed with his album debut Zeh (2009). He’s released two more solo albums: Az (2010) as well as Lah (2015).

Feit relocated into the Jerusalem’s Nachlaot neighbourhood in 2005, to pursue studies in Yeshiva. In Nachlaot, Feit and his friends started a band they called Lev Yerushalayim. Together, Feit would beatbox and freestyle in late- night shows at the outside of Yeshivat Simchat Shlomo.

In 2008 when in the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center, Feit met the Jewish rapper Eprhyme (Eden Pearlstein). After they played their respective music to the other, Eprhyme invited Feit to sing on his debut album Waywordwonderwill and they later joined forces to form their duo Darshan. Their debut album Lishmah is released on the year 2010 The album was and followed by their full-length album entitled Deeper and Higher in 2015.

Since 2015, Shir Yaakov has led Kol Hai. From 2008 to 2012, he served as Musical Director at Romemu, the Manhattan congregation led by Rabbi David Ingber, who was also a student of Schachter-Shalomi. Earlier still, Shir Yaakov co-founded and led the Kol Zimrah minyan on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
