Berrigan was the highest try scorer for his 2005 Brisbane Broncos season scoring 19 attempts. Berrigan had his 150th game of first grade for the club in 2006. He started the season in the middle position, however injury to Broncos full-time hookers Michael Ennis and Shaun’s brother Barry and the coach Wayne Bennett move Berrigan to hooker. Berrigan was selected to play for the Australian national team from the interchange bench in the 2007 ANZAC Test match victory against New Zealand. During the 2007 NRL season, at the Broncos’ 20-year anniversary celebration, the club announced a list of the 20 best players to play for them to date which included Berrigan. Berrigan’s Brisbane contract ended at the end of the 2007 season.
Berrigan scored his first try for new club Hull in Round 2 of 2008’s Super League XIII. On 30 August Shaun Berrigan appeared for Hull at Wembley in the 2008 Challenge Cup Final. During his Hull career Berrigan continued to play at hooker.
He was a member of The Brisbane Broncos, with whom were winners of in the year 2000 as well as the NRL Grand Final, and the New Zealand Warriors and the Canberra Raiders in the National Rugby League. Shaun Berrigan (born 4 November 1978) is an Australian former professional footballer in the league of rugby who played as a hooker halfback, centre and five-eighth during the 1990s, 2000s, and the 2010s.
Berrigan made his debut as a premiership player with the Brisbane Broncos in Round 11 of 1999’s NRL season, against the Balmain Tigers, making eleven appearances over the course of the NRL season. The following season, the year 2000 Berrigan took on the role of the bench on the interchange in the Broncos in their 2001 NRL Grand Final victory over the Sydney Roosters. The Broncos had won in 2000 the NRL Premiership, the Broncos made a trip to England to face the the 2000’s Super League V Champions, St Helens R.F.C. in their 2002 World Club Challenge, with Berrigan playing as a five-eighth, and scoring a touchdown to help Brisbane win. Berrigan’s usual position was centre , but Berrigan could be found in a variety of back-line positions and also as hooker. Berrigan’s versatility can be seen when studying the Queensland team, for which Berrigan was the fifth-eighth for the entirety of the 2003 State of Origin series. He played all of the 2003 State of Origin series at halfback for Queensland and were beaten. He played in the centre position during in the 2004 State of Origin series. Berrigan was picked for the Australian team to take part in the closing of season 2004, Rugby League Tri-Nations tournament. In the final, against Great Britain he played at the centre of the Kangaroos who won 44-4.
Berrigan signed a four-year deal with English Super League team and 2006 Grand Final runners up, Hull FC. His contract commenced with the start of the 2008 season when he replaced Richard Swain, who retired from the game at the end of the 2007 season, thus freeing up a free quota space.
