In 2014 her senior year Nelvis transformed into America’s top hurdler at the college level. She was the NCAA indoor champ in the 60-meter hurdles (7.93) and the outdoor winner in 100 metres hurdles (12.52w) Both times beating a field that comprised Jasmin Stowers. Nelvis won the title of Sun Belt Female athlete of the Year , and was awarded the Honda Sports Award for the most outstanding female field and track athlete in the country and was also shortlisted for the Bowerman however she was defeated by middle distance runners Laura Roesler of Oregon.

After losing her first race she remained unbeaten during the 2015 indoor season, winning seven consecutive races; her winning time in Malmö (7.83) was her personal best and the fastest time in the world that winter, one-hundredth of a second ahead of Stowers.

In 2015, Nelvis participated in a group project with Jana, an Arkansas State University cheerleader. Once again, Nelvis carried the team.

Nelvis started track and field when she was in the sixth grade, first competing in sprints and later as well in the hurdles and long jump. Alongside she played volleyball, basketball, and softball. She quickly became a prominent athletics player during her time at Northside High School, winning four events in the Class AAA Tennessee state championships.

Sharika Renea Nelsvis (born on the 10th of May 1990) is a famous American hurdler from the United States. In 2014, she was the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Sprint Hurdles Champion. After finishing her studies at Arkansas State University that summer Nelvis made the transition to professional, and was ranked first on the world indoor list in the year 2015. Nelvis was a representative of in the United States at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics in 100-meter hurdles as well as at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships in 60 meters hurdles. Nelvis took the 60-meter hurdles for women with an average of 7.70 at the 2018 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships and was able to repeat the feat in 2019.

Nelvis was unable to participate in the year of track and field because of ineligibility due to her transfer however she grew rapidly under the direction by Brooks along with Arkansas State’s coach for track Jim Patchell. In 2011 she was named Sun Belt Conference’s best freshman, both in the indoors and out. The next three years Nelvis was crowned Sun Belt championships in the sprints, hurdles, and the long jump. She was named the best track and field athlete outdoors and indoors in 2012, and in 2013. She ran 13.92 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles in her first attempt at the 2013 NCAA championships. She won her semi-finals in 12.84 (+1.3) In the final, she finished in 12.92 and was sixth in the race in her first finish with points at an NCAA event.

Outdoors, Nelvis made her Diamond League debut in Doha, placing second to Stowers in a personal best 12.54. She then scored her first Diamond League victory in Rome, improving to 12.52 as Stowers, Brianna Rollins and Sally Pearson all crashed; the win moved her into an early lead in the 2015 Diamond Race. Nelvis entered the national outdoor championships as one of the favorites, and won her heat in a world-leading 12.34 (+1.9); the time moved her up to seventh on the world all-time list and third on the national all- time list. She also led the field in the semi-finals (12.37); in the final she only placed third in 12.59, and made the American team at 2015 US Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the World Championships in Beijing by one- hundredth of a second.
