Brian Hersholt Ellerbe (born September 1st 1963) is a famous American basketball player. Brian Hersholt Ellerbe (born September 1, 1963) is a coach from Seat Pleasant, Maryland native was the head basketball coach for Loyola College in Maryland–now known as Loyola University Maryland, from 1994 to 1997 . He also coached at in the University of Michigan from 1997 until 2001.

From 1997 until 2001, Ellerbe served as the head coach of Michigan. University of Michigan. Ellerbe played Michigan to a spot during the 1998 NCAA Tournament and 2000 NIT. However, all of the victories in his initial 2 seasons with Michigan were later disqualified because of an University of Michigan basketball scandal that saw four players receive money from the booster Ed Martin. The infractions date back to the former coaching staff and Ellerbe himself was cleared of any wrongdoing. After a season of 10-18, Michigan fired Ellerbe on the 13th of March, 2001.

In 2009, Ellerbe returned to basketball coaching at George Washington under Karl Hobbs. From 2010 to 2013, Ellerbe was an assistant at DePaul on the staff of Oliver Purnell. In 2015, Ellerbe joined Todd Bozeman’s staff at Morgan State.

Ellerbe was appointed head coach of Loyola University Maryland in 1994. In just three seasons, Ellerbe transformed the team from 9-18 to 13-14.

Ellerbe attended Bowie High School in Bowie, Maryland. He was a four-year player in the basketball team at Rutgers University from 1981 to 1985. Ellerbe was a backcourt player at Rutgers along with John Battle for Tom Young.
