Nevin was to play another 9 games with Manly during 1997’s ARL season. The Sea Eagles made amends for the previous year’s disappointment by beating St George 20-8 in the Grand Final at the SFS. Nevin scored his first attempt in the top division in the Manly’s 44-6 defeat of Souths in the first round of the season.
Manly Coach Bob Fulton gave Nevin his first grade debut on his bench position for Manly during their win of 48-18 against South Sydney at the Sydney Football Stadium (SFS) in the first game of the 1995 ARL season. Nevin then spent the following 11 weeks as a reserve (during when it was the only time that the Sea Eagles first grade team didn’t lose a game) and was in the bench for the Round 12 match with The North Sydney Bears at Brookvale Oval in which Nevin scored his first points in the top grade kicks that led to the ball. After three weeks in reserve and then being called up to play the first two games of Fullback with the Sea Eagles when Ridge was not available due to his participation playing for New Zealand in a test series against France.
