Her most impressive international feat is winning a silver medal in the 100-meter race at the 2010 IAAF Continental Cup, while representing the Americas team. She was selected for 2011 World Championships in Athletics by winning the 200 m race at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Her 22.15 in the winning race was the best time ever recorded for the year 2011. When she competed in the World Championships, she ran significantly slower than the National Championships, finishing a fourth place in the 200 m in front of Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown and American teammates Carmelita Jeter, and defending Champion Allyson Felix. In the championships that followed she was awarded the gold medal for her participation as a member of the American 4 100 m relay in the initial rounds, only to be substituted with Felix at the end of the competition. She sports a distinctive head bob during running, something that has been evident from high school.
Shalonda Solomon placed second behind Felix in Felix’s second place finish at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In 2006, Solomon received the honor of Women’s Indoor Scholar Award Winner in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Her junior year was hindered by a strain in her right quadriceps muscles.
In 2010, she repeated a second place at the USA National Championships in the 200 m.

In High School, Shalonda Solomon won the USA Junior Outdoor Championship at 100 and 200 meters. This allowed her to participate for the Pan American Junior Championships in Barbados for the United States, where she took home three gold medals from the sprints of two seconds and the 4 100 m relay. The 200 m race she won with a time of 22.93 was a record championship performance. In her senior season at the high school level, Solomon finished runner-up in the 100 200 m and 100 m events in the CIF State Meet, losing to a dominant double win from Jasmine Baldwin, who ran 11.35 at 100 meters in addition to 22.86 at 200 meters. Solomon did come through triumphant in the 4 100 m relay, as well as the 4 400 m relay this is the reason why she was named by the Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year the second time in two years. In the final summer in her year on the high track at school, she put in another impressive international run and won gold in the 200-meter race as well as the 4 100 relay at the 2004 World Junior Championships in Athletics.
When she was at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, California, Solomon was awarded The Gatorade athlete of the year for school 2003-2004 school year. In the CIF California State Meet, as a freshman , she was in the top ten, just 0.02 in front of Allyson Felix at the start of 100 meters (and third ahead of Felix for the race of 200 meters). As a sophomore she was second to Felix for the 100m watch the race and the 200 m race and was a part of her team’s dominant 4x 100 m relay as well as 4 400 m relay triumphs and helped her team win the title of team. This was a feat that they repeated in 2003, and again in 2004 with the exception that, following the retirement in 2004 of Felix, Soloman was beaten by Bishop Amat Memorial High School senior Jasmin Baldwin.
In 2007 Shalonda Solomon announced she would forgo her senior year of eligibility to turn professional after earning 10 NCAA All American honors, ultimately signing with Reebok.
