A fifth-place finish at the 2010 European Individual Chess Championship earned him a spot at the World Cup held that year. He lost the first round against Anton Filippov. Zhigalko won the Baku Open in 2011 and in 2012.
Zhigalko has represented Zhigalko in the Belarusian national team in the Chess Olympiad, the World Team Chess Championship and Chess Olympiad, the European Team Chess Championship and the Children Chess Olympiad.
