Knecht was a 2012 player for the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Class-A Advanced Florida State League. He was released from Dunedin on March 31, 2015, after remaining with the team in 2013 and 2014.
Knecht was signed by the Minnesota Twins to a minor-league deal on April 3, 2015. The organization released Knecht on March 28, 2016. Knecht signed a contract with the Quebec Capitales, Can-Am League in April 2016. On February 21, 2018, he was released. Knecht signed on April 9, 2018 with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Intercounty Baseball League.

Knecht played for Canada’s national baseball team. Knecht was a participant in the 2008 World Junior Baseball Championship and was named to the tournament All Star team. He was a participant in the 2011 Baseball World Cup where Canada won bronze and the 2011 Pan American Games where Canada won gold.
Knecht was a student at St. Michael’s College in Toronto, and played youth baseball for the North York Baseball Association in Toronto. Knecht represented Ontario at the Canadian Championships. Knecht was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 23rd round (698th overall), of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. However, he didn’t sign. Knecht enrolled at Oklahoma State University-Stillwater to play college baseball for the Oklahoma State Cowboys baseball team in the Big 12 Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Division I. In 2009, he only received 12 hits. This led him to transfer to Connors State College in 2010.
