He played 46 times with 23 scoring goals on the National Team, and guided Nigeria to the debut Africa Cup of Nations title during the 1980 tournament in his country of birth. He was dubbed Mathematical and a household name, he was known for his skill with the ball, the speed and accuracy of his crosses from the right-wing. He was a member of the IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan throughout his careerfrom 1970 until 1984. His final game was in the 1985 African Champions Cup final defeat to Zamalek from Egypt. The origin of the name “Mathematical” was because Segun Odegbami graduated from Nigeria’s most prestigious technical school; The Polytechnic, Ibadan where he studied Engineering.
