Sean Michael Newton (born 23 September 1988) is an English professional footballer who plays left back at National League North club York City. He been a part of the Football League for Chester City and Notts County.
Newton was born in Liverpool, Merseyside. The member of the club’s youth program He signed an official deal for Chester City in May 2007. The first time he made his first-team debut for Chester on the 1st of January, 2008, against Grimsby Town at left back after having been a non-existent substitute in earlier matches.
On 17 July 2009, Newton signed for Conference Premier club Barrow. In August 2009, Newton joined Conference North club A.F.C. Telford United on a one-month loan, following a move in the opposite direction by Gareth Jelleyman.
At the start of 2012–13, he was second in line for captaincy. Newton’s speed and Freekick ability led to him scoring 6 times in his first full season for the Hatters; making him third in the top scorers list for the season. With Joe Connor and James Tunnicliffe being out of the team, Newton became the captain and was in line for the County Player of the Season award.
The end of Feb 2008 Newton along with his teammate Stephen Vaughan joined Droylsden on loan. There, Newton played in the first team throughout the season.

Newton had a loan spell with Southport in the beginning of the 2007-08 campaign, giving him first-team experience. The loan period also saw him score with a free-kick in a game against Tamworth. After 13 league and 4 cup games, he came back with Chester City in November 2007.
Newton was the subject of headlines on December 24, 2008, the same day that he participated at the FA Cup second-round replay against Chesterfield. Newton scored two goals to Droylsden with a score of 2-1 win to earn a third-round tie against Ipswich Town. It was revealed following the game that Newton was scheduled to be given a one-game suspension at the time of the match following the issuance of five yellow cards for the season on December 9. Droylsden was informed about his suspension from the Football Association on 10 December. This means that Newton was ineligible for the game against Chesterfield. The FA investigation into the incident was conducted and the matter was resolved in a FA Cup committee on 29 December. Following this, the three teams involved received notice of their outcome which stated that the club was exiled from the competition after being found guilty of fielding an unqualified player. The club appealed but was unsuccessful.
Newton was capped five times by the England national C team, scoring one goal, from 2009 to 2010.

Newton signed for York permanently on 6 January 2017. On 21 May 2017, he started as York beat Macclesfield Town 3–2 at Wembley Stadium in the 2017 FA Trophy Final.
