Mooney is a journalist for Fox Sports Arizona since July 2000, focusing specifically on University of Arizona football and basketball. He hosted Fox Sports coverage of Rugby all over the world as well as in 2010, he covered the Rugbyville USA Camp located in Glendale, Colorado.
He was hired by KVOA TV in 2012 to become a weekend news anchor for News 4 Tucson. He also hosts a podcast on the MLW Radio Network called Prime Time with Sean Mooney, which was co-hosted by former WWE wrestler “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan for its first 18 episodes.
Mooney once again returned to WWE on July 23, 2012 for the 1,000th episode of Raw by interviewing Daniel Bryan backstage.
In some instances, Mooney portrayed his fictional siblings with an identical twin sister known as Betty in Prime Time Wrestling (alongside heel wrestlers like Sherri and Sensational Sherri) and an identical twin brother Ian Mooney while co-hosting Wrestling Spotlight. Mooney’s last appearances on television included his 1993 Survivor Series and early episodes of WWF Monday Night Raw, and his final show at WWF TV as the host of the countdown show prior to WrestleMania IX. On April 23, 1993 Mooney’s contract ran out and he decided not to renew the contract. His replacement came from Todd Pettengill as an interviewer and Event Center personality , as well as Gorilla Monsoon, who was on WWF Mania as well as WWF All-American Wrestling for play-by-play.

Mooney was an on-camera host and producer at Major League Baseball Productions in the 1980s prior to working as a producer for WWF. In the following years, he was an anchorman at WWOR-TV which is based in Secaucus, New Jersey. He was there until 1997 after which he was succeeded with Ernie Anastos. The following year, he moved into WBZ in Boston and was the anchorman for less than one year.
Mooney was introduced on May 15th, 1998 edition of WWF Wrestling Challenge, replacing announcer Craig DeGeorge.
He reappeared on WWE TV in October 2005, during the pre-show to WWE Raw’ s “Homecoming” to the USA Network.
