Talbot-Cameron is the child of the former Australian head coach Don Talbot and Jan Cameron (nee Murphy), who was the New Zealand head coach and Australian 1964 Tokyo Olympics silver medallist at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. He was born in Canberra, Australia, he was a child of parents who moved to Canada after which he returned to Australia and then emigrated together with their mother New Zealand at the age of 10. He went to Rosmini College in Auckland and Auburn University in the US state of Alabama and then completed his studies at Massey University in Albany, New Zealand with a BA in Psychology.
He relocated from Australia to become Director of Middle Distance at the University of Sydney, and in 2016, he was appointed to the position of High Performance Coach for the Nunawading Swimming Club in Melbourne.
In 2003’s Student Games, he was the captain of the team swimming and set his own National Record in the 100m backstroke, finishing 5th.

Scott Talbot-Cameron (born 13 July 1981) is an Australian born two-time Olympic and national record-holding backstroke swimmer from New Zealand. He represented New Zealand at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics.
Talbot-Cameron began coaching professional swimming at the North Shore Swim Club in 2003, from junior to senior level, and also served as an official New Zealand national coach in the High Performance Centre based in the Millennium Institute in Auckland. In 2013, he was promoted to an assistant coach for the swimming team of the University of Sydney. He also attended at the 2012 London Olympics as the national coach in New Zealand.
