On August 12, 2009 Roma agreed to sign a contract for one year with Milan to take over Zeljko Kalac who was let go from Milan by mutual agreement. When he joined Milan, Roma cited joining Milan as a dream that was realized and Roma was scheduled to compete for the starting spot with Marco Storari as Christian Abbiati and Dida were recovering from injuries. The reality was that Milan coach Leonardo prefers Storari and, upon returning from an injury Dida. In January of 2010, Storari left for Sampdoria and Abbiati returned from injuries, making Roma the third goalie choice. After the season his agreement was renewed to an undetermined length.

On 2 August 2012, Roma signed for Monaco on a one-year deal on a free transfer. Following Monaco’s promotion to Ligue 1, Roma made his first appearance in his second spell, where he came on as a substitute for Martin Sourzac in the second half, as Monaco won 2–1 against Tours. After making one appearance, Roma signed a contract extension. At the end of the season, he announced his retirement.

On 13 May 2012, Roma announced he had played his last match for Milan.

Roma was given his first call-up for Italy on the 17th of November, 2004 in a friendly match in which Marcello Lippi was trying to find a backup goalie to replace Gianluigi Buffon. Roma was first introduced on the 30th of March 2005 during a goalless draw against Iceland in the absence of Morgan De Sanctis at half-time. Roma made his debut in a full game on June 11 against Ecuador. In the aftermath of injury, Roma wasn’t called in for warm-up friendly matches ahead for his participation in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. His last call-up until today on the 16th of August 2006, the first game for Italy following it was the World Cup.
