Scott Derek Severin (born 15 February 1979 in Stirling) is a Scottish former professional footballer. Severin was a player for Heart of Midlothian, Aberdeen, Watford, Kilmarnock and Dundee United. Severin was captain of the club Aberdeen for two years. He also played in 15 games in the Scotland national team. In his time Severin was a defensive midfielderas well as a left back striker, and even as a goalkeeper with Hearts.

At the time of his 29 October 2009 birthday, Severin has played 15 times for the Scotland national team of football.

Severin transferred to Dundee United on 31 August 2010, and scored his first goal for the club in a 4–2 win over Kilmarnock. He suffered a triple leg break in a SPL match against St Mirren on 6 August 2011. On 17 March 2012, Severin announced his retirement from professional football due to the injury he sustained against St Mirren.

In July 2004 Severin quit Hearts at the end of his contract. He became Jimmy Calderwood’s initial signing with Aberdeen. He signed a new three-and-a-half- year contract with Aberdeen in December 2005. The day before the end of the 2006-07 campaign, the Scot scored in a win against the rivals Rangers which earned him an UEFA Cup place for the next season. In July 2007, he was named captain of Aberdeen as he succeeded Russell Anderson.

Severin began his profession with Heart of Midlothian. The team captain was a team’s youth team that took home the Scottish Youth Cup in 1998 under Peter Houston. Severin began his career as a sub during Hearts 3-1 win over Dundee United on 6 April 1999. His debut appearance as a starter followed just three weeks later, with a 4-0 win over Motherwell. Severin began to regularly play for Hearts during the 1999-2000 season and played 28 times in all competitions . He also scored his first goal for the club in the Scottish League Cup match against Queen of the South. Hearts finished the season in third position which earned them a spot in an appearance in the UEFA Cup and Severin’s form brought him a contract extension for 2004. In his first game in Europe, Severin scored Hearts’ first goal in their 2-0 UEFA Cup Qualifying victory over Icelandic team IBV. Severin was once goalkeeper for Hearts after injuries caused by Teuvo Moilanen.

Scotland coach Craig Brown gave Severin his international debut during a World Cup qualifier against Latvia in 2001. He was awarded 15 international caps with Scotland over the course of his career but his two games being during the tournament of 2006 Kirin Cup.

In June 2009 the Watford Observer reported he would be moving on a free transfer to Watford. Watford later confirmed that he would sign on 1 July

2009. Severin scored his first goal for Watford in a first round League Cup tie at Underhill Stadium against Barnet on 11 August 2009. On 1 February 2010, he joined Kilmarnock on loan until the end of the 2009–10 season. Severin made his first team debut for Kilmarnock a day later, as an 80th-minute substitute in a 1–0 Scottish Premier League win against Celtic.
