Sayed Ashraful Islam is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 1, 1952 in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Syed Ashraful Islam was the oldest daughter of Syed Nazrul Islam, acting president of the Mujibnagar government in the year 1971. Islam was an Mukti Bahini participant in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. He was a political participant during his student years. He was appointed general secretary of the the Greater Mymensingh District Chhatra League and the assistant publicity secretary for the Central unit. He also served as the acting General Secretary of the Awami League following the arrest the general secretary Abdul Jalil. He also served as the spokesperson of Bangladesh Awami League Party before becoming the The General Secretary for the Awami League.

In November, Islam was diagnosed with lung cancer stage 4. He passed away on the 3rd of January 2019 at Bangkok, Thailand.

Following the murder of Islam’s father by prison guards together with three other leaders of the national government He emigrated in his home country of the United Kingdom and lived in London Borough of Tower Hamlets. While within Tower Hamlets, he was engaged as a participant in Bangladeshi social activism, and also played a crucial part in the formation of the Bangladesh Youth League (BYL). He was elected as the Education Secretary of the Federation of Bangladeshi Youth Organisation (FBYO) and was employed by an education program based at the Montefiore Centre in Tower Hamlets. Prior to emigrating to England in the United Kingdom, he completed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in 1973 at Mymensingh Zillah School. In 1996, he returned Bangladesh at the end of 1996 to be elected a Member of the Parliament (MP) from the constituency he grew up in, Kishoreganj Sadar, in the 7th National Elections of Bangladesh. He was elected MP in the election of 2001 also. He was a part of the permanent committee on the foreign ministry. His campaign promises include the development of a railway line and road between Dhaka to his hometown, Kishoreganj. Ashraful is a part of a committee that is studying the pay scale for judicial officers. Ashraful was elected to Kishoreganj-1’s constituency during the 11th Parliamentary election, which was held on December 30, 2018.
