Johnson is Mike Brown’s primary backup throughout his stint with the Bears and was granted more playing time after Brown’s injury that ended his season in 2004. In 2005, the following year, Johnson saw action in 14 games, resulting in 35 tackles. Johnson was able to make 32 tackles during the 2006 season, but was released after the season.

Todd Edward Johnson (born December 18th 1978) is an American professional and former college footballer who played as an official safe on the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons in the decade of 2000. Johnson played in the NCAA football tournament for the University of Florida, and later, he was a professional player in the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Rams and the Buffalo Bills of the NFL.
Johnson took up an athletic scholarships to study at an athletic scholarship at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he played with Coach Steve Spurrier and coach Ron Zook’s Florida Gators football teams from 1998 until 2002. The Gators team made the decision to redshirt him an actual freshman in 1998. it was during the season that he practiced with the scout team. Then, Johnson became a four-year letterman , and was a starter on the field in thirty-three of the forty-nine games Johnson was a player. In his redshirt freshman year in 1999, Johnson had 24 tackles, four passes blocked and forced fumbles, as well as one recovery of a fumble. In his sophomore season of 2000, he was a starter in every game, and was the top player with a record-setting 102 tackles and recorded five interceptions. He also had three passes blocked one forced fumble and four fumble recoveries including one that returned 76 yards to score a touchdown and earned first-team All-Southeastern conference (SEC) distinctions. Johnson was a starter in all eleven games as a junior in 2001, accumulating 772 tackles with three pass blocked as well as two interceptions. He again was named to the first team of All-SEC accolades. As the captain of the senior team in 2002, Johnson played in the entire 13 games, and had a total of eighty-eight stops and two interceptions. He was also named a second-team All-SEC player. Johnson completed the Gator career with 9 interceptions and 284 tackles.
On October 13, 2009, Johnson signed a one-year free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills. Johnson was placed on injured reserve on January 2, 2010 due to a hamstring injury.
