In Panadura in the year 1969, Jayawardene made his first-class debut for Panadura Sports Club against Nomads Sports Club in March 1989. He continued to play at his local club from 1995 until the time he transferred towards Antonians Sports Club. He also played first-class cricket with Western Province South, Western Province Suburbs as well as a Sri Lanka Board Under-23s XI during the same time. He made his List A debut came in January 1993 as the team was Panadura Sports Club against Nondescripts Cricket Club.

He played two first-class games for Malaysia during 2004 playing Nepal as well as in the UAE at the ICC Intercontinental Cup. This match with the UAE was his final match for Malaysia. He was a part of 2004’s ACC Trophy against Kuwait and Saudi Arabia between the two Intercontinental Cup matches.

He continued playing for Panadura Sports Club throughout 2006 and into 2007, his last first-class match to date coming against Lankan Cricket Club in February 2007. He most recently played for Panadura in a Twenty20 match against Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club in March 2007.

His debut came in Malaysia in a game in a match against ECB National Academy in February 2003. Then, he played in that season’s Stan Nagaiah Trophy match against Singapore. He was part of the Malaysian Cricket Association Invite XI in the match against England A on February 2004as well as taking part as part of the Stan Nagaiah Trophy for a second time that same month.

Walikalage Sarath Peiris Jayawardene often referred to Sarath Jayawardene (born 22 July 1969) is an Sri Lankan cricketer who has also played for Malaysia. A right-handed batsman as well as a medium speed bowler. enjoyed two spells as a first-class player within Sri Lanka, one from 1989 until 2002 and the second between 2005 and 2007. He was a player for Malaysia in 2003 and 2004.

He played his first match of the first class with Antonians Sports Club against Sinhalese Sports Club in November 1995. He continued to be a part of them until 1997. He only played the one List A match for them during this time. He was back at Panadura Sports Club in 1999 and continued to play for them until 2002, at which point he began his journey to Malaysia.

He returned to play for Panadura Sports Club in October 2005 when he played a Twenty20 match against Chilaw Marians Cricket Club. After two further Twenty20 matches, he returned to first-class cricket with them in December 2005 with a match against Moors Sports Club.
