Santosh Kumar is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Referee who was born on May 12, 1975 in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Muringothumalil Santosh Kumar (born 12 May 1975) is an Indian professional referee for football who is primarily on the I-League.
In 2012, it was declared that Kumar would be among three official referees from India to be promoted to professional status through the All India Football Federation.
On 13 February 2015, it was announced that Kumar had won the award for the AIFF Best Referee of the Year for 2014. In response, Kumar said “We have tried to perform well on the field. I enjoy Referring. I would like to thank AIFF and the Kerala Football Association for all their support. I would also like to thank all my colleagues”.
Kumar refereed his debut match as professional on October 7, 2012, in a match that was played between Sporting Goa and East Bengal. He was slapped with two yellow cards one for each team and the game ended at 0-0.

In Kerala, Kumar grew up in a family where he was extremely enthusiastic about football. He played for local small teams, earning around the equivalent of Rs. 200 per match. In the end, however due to injuries and financial difficulties, Kumar had to give his football career and instead, focusing on the job of refereeing the game. He began as a referee during the 1990s, for games played in the village. He was able to pass his physical and written exam for refereeing in the year 1996. Kumar began to referee games on both regional and local levels. He also started taking on various other positions to pay the bills after passing his test.
In 2004, Kumar was appointed a national referee. However, due to commitments at work, he would not be able to officiate every match was assigned because of commitments to work. In 2012, it was announced that Kumar as well as C.R. Srikrishna as well as Pratap Singh would join the ranks of professional referees at the All India Football Federation and consequently earn more than before.
Kumar also refereed the match between Bayern Munich and India in which Bayern Munich won 4–0.
