The 62nd district’s primary election in 2010 featured endorsements by The Daily Herald, Chicago Tribune and The Pioneer Press. On February 2 the 2nd of February, 2010, Representative Cole defeated her primary opponent Paul Mitchell and on November 2nd in 2010 she easily defeated Democrat Rich Voltair in the general election.

Sandy Cole was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives on November 7th, 2006. Cole was elected to serve in the District 62nd, which includes all or a portion in the Central Lake County communities of Grayslake, Gurnee, Wildwood, Grandwood Park, Hainesville, Round Lake Beach, Round Lake Heights, Round Lake Park, Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Wadsworth and Third Lake. Her appointment for the Illinois House followed her ten years of notable work as a member of the Lake County Board, where she was an influential leader in a variety of issues ranging from open space, environmental protection and transportation. Sandy Cole served on the Lake County Board from 1996-2006 as a representative of in the 11th District.
