Samir Altaqi is one of the most popular and richest Academic who was born on January 1, 1951 in Aleppo, Syria. Ahmad Samir Altaqi (Arabic: “Hmd smyr Ltqy ) (born the 1st of January, 1951) is a Syrian researcher and political activist. Before becoming a cardio-vascular surgeon the doctor gradually moved into politics. In 2016, he was serving as General Director of Orient Research Centre in Dubai. He was the Director of International Studies in Damascus until 2010.
He was in the Academic year 2010-2011 as an academic fellow with the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry financed the Orient Research Centre for International Studies in Damascus and appointed Altaqi the General Director of the Centre. In 2005, Altaqi was the director of the Orient Center for International Studies. The center was specialized in studies of strategic and foreign policy associated with the Syrian Foreign Ministry. The center was shut down because of political oppression.

Altaqi is a cardiovascular surgeon. The surgeon graduated in the year 1975 at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Aleppo and then pursued further studies on cardiovascular surgical procedures. He was director of the Plastic Surgery department at Al-Razi Hospital, Aleppo. He was later made the head of medical services for the Health Department in the Governorate of Aleppo. In this position the doctor was responsible for overseeing and auditing the functioning of all hospitals of the governorate.
In 2000, as he was working as the Head of Medical Staff at the Red Crescent Hospital in Damascus He consulted with his Syrian Ministry of Health. The year 2004 was the time he worked with the Syrian Premier on health issues. He discussed health insurance, health planning and medical services organizations.
In 2011, Altaqi established the Orient Research Centre in Dubai. The Center is an independent thinktank working on strategic economic and social domains related to the Middle East.
