Senators Daniel Inouye, and Daniel Akaka recommended McKenna to President Barack Obama to fill a judicial post on the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii. McKenna was not nominated, and the nomination went to Leslie E. Kobayashi on April 2010.

Sabrina Shizue McKenna, born October 7, 1957, is an American judge. She has been a Justice of Hawaii’s Supreme Court since February 16, 2011.
McKenna worked as an associate at Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel from 1987 to 1987, and then was general counsel to Otaka, Inc. from 1990 to 1990. After becoming an assistant professor at University of Hawaii Law School, McKenna was appointed as a District Court Judge on November 30, 1993. On June 29, 1995, she was promoted to the Circuit Courts.
