Scully was a participant in pre-season friendly matches ahead of the 2011-12 season. The final was against Dumbarton, where he lost 4-1. On his nineteenth birthday, Scully made his debut of the season by keeping another clean sheet against Dundee (10-man). Scully’s outstanding performances were acknowledged by Jackie McNamara, his manager. At the start of 2013–14 season, Scully was among three players sent out on loan to gain first team experience. He joined relegated side Dunfermline Athletic on a six-month loan deal. Upon joining Dunfermline, he vowed to become the first choice goalkeeper. After establishing himself in the first team, the loan spell with Dunfermline was extended until the end of the season; Scully expressed his “delight” and had no hesitation in extending his loan with the club. After 46 appearances for Dunfermline in all competitions, Scully was awarded the club’s Player of the Year award.

Scully joined Albion Rovers in the 2013 winter transfer window on a sixth month loan. After that loan spell came to an end, Scully, along with David Wilson, signed a one-year contract extension.

He was part of the Under-19 team that won the SFL Youth Cup in May 2010. Thistle beat Livingston 3-2 in a final, with many saves by Scully. Scully was promoted to the first squad with Ross McGeough, Ryan MacBeth and Scully at the end of the 2009-10 season. Scully signed a contract extension in September 2010, which would keep him at Thistle until May 2013.

Partick Thistle’s under-17 team was formed in 2008 when Scully joined them. He had never received any formal coaching before arriving at Firhill.
