Ryan Parent, a former Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman, was born March 17, 1987. He played for the Philadelphia Flyers (NHL) and the Vancouver Canucks (NHL). He is currently an assistant with the Binghamton Devils.

Parent was traded to Nashville Predators on June 19, 2010 for Dan Hamhuis’ rights and a conditional draft selection in 2011, in case Philadelphia didn’t sign Hamhuis. Parent, Jonas Andersson and Dan Gendur were traded to the Vancouver Canucks before the regular season started. Parent was then placed on waivers by Vancouver. Parent was cleared to sign waivers, but he wasn’t immediately demoted. Before he hurt his groin, he dressed for four games for the Canucks. After he had fully recovered, he was reassigned by the Canucks to their AHL affiliate, Manitoba Moose. He was recalled several times to the Canucks during the 2010-11 season but did not dress for another NHL match. Parent was assigned by Canucks to their AHL affiliate, Chicago Wolves, before the 2011-12 season. Parent was loaned by Team Canada to the Spengler Cup 2011.

On August 23, 2018, after the New Jersey Devils had relocated the Albany Devils to Binghamton, he was named as an assistant coach for the Binghamton Devils.

Parent was traded with Scottie upshall, a 1st-round draft-pick, as well as a 3rd-round draft-pick to Philadelphia Flyers, in exchange for Peter Forsberg. Parent made his NHL debut against the New Jersey Devils on April 5, 2007. In a 7-4 loss to the Florida Panthers, Parent scored his first NHL goal.

Parent was born in Prince Albert in Saskatchewan. He grew up in Sioux Lookout in Ontario. From his minor bantam year, he played minor hockey in the Flyers rep program. He played AAA hockey with the Thunder Bay Kings Bantam Team at age 15 and was a teammate to future NHL’ers Tom Pyatt, Marc Staal, and Marc Staal. The Waterloo Siskins Jr.B. signed Parent. Parent was then signed by the Waterloo Siskins Jr.B. for the 2002-03 season, before being drafted in the 8th round of the 2003 OHL Priority Selection.

The Nashville Predators drafted Parent in the 18th round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Parent played three seasons with the Guelph Storm in the Ontario Hockey League. He then joined the Milwaukee Admirals to play in the American Hockey League playoffs 2006. For the 2006-07 season, he returned to the Guelph Storm. He also participated on the gold-medal winning World Jr. Hockey Championship teams in 2006 and 2007.

As an Unrestricted Free Agent going into the 2012–13 season due to the NHL lock-out, Parent was signed to a professional try-out contract with the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL on October 24, 2012. Parent was later signed by NHL affiliate, the Anaheim Ducks, on a one-year contract on January 16, 2013.
