Clady was the starting quarterback for every game of the 2008 NFL season. He gave up only half a sack and committed just three penalties. Peter King, of Sports Illustrated, declared Clady the third-best rookie in the 2008 NFL season. After his win against the Kansas City Chiefs, Clady was awarded the Diet Pepsi NFL rookie of the week award. This was the first award that an offensive or defensive lineman had won this season.
In 2009, the Sporting News listed Clady as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the NFL. After the Broncos’ October 4, 2009 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, Clady set a new NFL record for consecutive games to start a career without giving up a full sack. Through his first 20 games, he surrendered only half of a sack. Clady was named a starter for the 2009 Pro Bowl and was named first-team All- Pro by the Sporting News and Associated Press after the 2009 season.
On April 28, 2010, Clady injured his patella tendon while playing basketball but did not miss a game the following season.
Clady was third in voting, behind Chris Johnson and Matt Ryan for the 2008 NFL Offensive Rookie Of The Year Award. He was the only offensive-lineman to win any votes. He was the only NFL starting offensive lineman to allow less than one sack throughout the season. Clady was a student at Boise State University. He played on the Boise State Broncos’ football team between 2004 and 2007. As a freshman, he redshirted in 2004. At the start of 2005, he was promoted to the starting right tackle and he played in 13 of 13 games. He was elected to the second and third All- American teams of several dotcoms. Before the 2006 campaign, he was moved to the left and started all 13 games. Clady was named to the SI.com Second-team All-American team and earned first-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors in his sophomore season.
