Chepngetich won two medals in 2000 mm steeplechase at the 2014 African Youth Games. She also took the title at these games and was awarded the title at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics. In that event, she held the record for the four fastest times in the world. She won the Kenyan junior title and moved up to the top twenty for the 3000m steeplechase. Her time was 9:40.28, which saw her win the silver medal at 2014 World Junior Championships. Ruth Jebet was second.
She was born in Rift Valley Province, raised in Keringet and started steeplechase training under Charles Ng’eno. She quickly became one of the top steeplechasers in the world, running the 2000m steeplechase in Nairobi at 6:12.0 in 2013. This time saw her rise to third place on the all-time list. At the 2013 World Youth Championships in Athletics she won the gold medal in the 2000m steeplechase. She ran 6:14.60 (the fourth-fastest time ever) to beat Daisy Jepkemei. She won her second Kenyan gold medal that year. At the 2013 IAAF World Cross Country Championships she was a team champion. She also won another gold medal as a team member with a fourth-place finish at the African Cross Country Championships’ junior race.
