Smoorenburg was a part of the Belgian horror film Engine Trouble, directed by Marc Ickx in 2002. He also co-starred in and choreographed Fighting Fish in 2004, the first Dutch martial arts film. It starred Kim Ho-Kim, who is Chinese.
Smoorenburg enjoyed the experience and would go on to play a few parts in Hong Kong movies. He was a Gen-Y Cops cage fighter and had a brief fight scene with Stephen Fung. The two would fight in a longer rematch, with Smoorenburg portraying a character resembling Bryan Fury and Fung’s Iron Surfer. Hwoarang was a Tekken-inspired movie called The Avenging Fist. Smoorenburg would be opposite Louis Koo in Born Wild and then moved up to the role of the main antagonist in Martial Angels alongside Shu Qi.

Ron Smoorenburg, a Dutch actor and martial artist, was born 30 April 1974. His film debut as the high-kicking henchman during the final fight in Jackie Chan’s Who Am I? is his most well-known role. In 1998. He lives now in Thailand as an actor, stuntman and fight choreographer.
Jackie Chan was filming Who Am I? Smoorenburg was cast in the role of the Rotterdam resident in 1997. Chan was impressed by his kick skills and hired him to be the final opponent in the filming of the fight on the Willemswerf Building’s roof. Ron was able to learn how to work in a fight scene and adapt to Chan’s rhythmic movements. He eventually learned how to pace, but the Jackie Chan Stunt Team’s Brad Allan, Andy Cheng and Nicky Li doubled the effort for the more difficult movements. Smoorenburg was a villain in an episode of Der Puma: Kampfer mit Herz 1999. He took on Mickey Hardt, the series’ star. Donnie Yen served as the action director.
In 2005, Smoorenburg went to Thailand to work as a stunt fighter on Tom-Yum- Goong, where he is seen as one of many fighters in a one vs. many fight against Tony Jaa. Ron loved the experience and locales so much that he decided to move there. Since then, Smoorenburg has appeared in both film and television series in Thailand, where he has a chance to showcase his action style. He has become good friends with the likes of Swedish-Chinese born stunt ace Tim Man and French-born stunt ace Brahim Achabbakhe. He can be seen taking on Scott Adkins in Ninja: Shadow of a Tear and teams up with Achabbakhe to take on Kane Kosugi in the sequel Tekken 2: Kazuya’s Revenge. In 2016, Smoorenburg had a bit role as a fighter who takes on Michael Jai White in the opening of Never Back Down: No Surrender and will be seen as the heroic Black Knight in Warrior’s Gate opposite Dave Bautista. He has also appeared in Bollywood films such as Brothers and Sultan starring Salman Khan.
