Ronny Rieken, a serial killer and child murderer from Germany, was born 12 February 1968. He murdered two young girls in northern Germany, Cloppenburg, 1998 and 1996. Rieken was the first German criminal caught by mass DNA screening. In 1998, he was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Justizvollzugsanstalt Celle.

On the 16th of March 1998, Rieken saw Christina Nytsch, 11 years old, from Cloppenburg. He dragged her from her bike and drove her to the Kempe canal where he had raped Everts. He beat her when she refused to change and drove her to Lorup’s forest. He forced her to change and strangled her with a cable. Then he stabbed the body with a knife several times. Six days later, Nytsch’s body was found 20 km from her home by hunters, barely covered with branches and covered in blood. She had been raped six times.

The Oldenburg district court sentenced him to life imprisonment, resulting in a minimum detention of well over 15 years. He is now serving his sentence at Celle Prison. In March 2012, it was found that Rieken had not worked up his deeds and therefore will be released by 2021 at the earliest. On 9 May 2012, this decision was confirmed by the Celle Court, making it legally binding.

Ulrike Everts, 13, was abducted by Rieken in Wardenburg on June 11, 1996. She was driving with her pony carriage to the Dortmunder Moorweg. He attacked her in a canal close to Kempe, just five months after he had abducted an 11-year old girl from Jeddeloh II. He then put on her clothes one by one, strangled her with diaper cloths and took her body to the Ipweger Moor, 40 km away. Her remains were discovered in July 1998.

Rieken was accused of being abused by his father as a child during his trial before the jury. The presiding judge had sentenced Rieken to a prison term in 1989 for the rape and battery of his sister. This greatly contributed to the acceptance and public acceptance of the method. The DNA analysis files were initiated by both the Federal Criminal Police and Land Criminal Police Offices as a combined application.

The appeal lodged by Rieken against his latest ruling revision was rejected in 1999 by the Federal Court of Justice.
