He was a former member of Florida’s 22nd congressional District of the United States House of Representatives. He is a member of Democratic Party and chaired the Jewish Democratic Council of America. He was previously a member of the Florida House of Representatives as well as the Florida Senate. Holland & Knight currently employs him.

Klein voted with the majority of his Democratic colleagues in 97.9% of votes during the 111th Congress. Based on his voting records, the nonpartisan National Journal rated Klein as 58.1 percent liberal and 41.7 conservatism.

On December 18, 2007, the magazine Politico named Ron Klein as its “Rookie of the Year”, citing his willingness to cross party lines and his ability to get major legislation passed.

On Election Day 2006, Klein defeated Shaw by a margin of 51%-48% and assumed office when the 110th Congress convened on January 4, 2007. Klein was aided by voter discontent over the war in Iraq and the scandal involving Republican Congressman Mark Foley in the neighboring district.

Klein defeated Steve Press, a ten year incumbent, in 1992’s Democratic primary to win a seat at the Florida House of Representatives. Klein was elected to Florida’s Senate in 1996. He served as the minority whip in 1998, and as minority leader from 2002-2004.
