Roman managed Otahuhu College’s senior rugby league team in the 2015 off- season. This college produced such players as Roger Tuivasa Sheck and Roger Tuivasa Sheck in their National Rugby League Secondary Schools Championship campaign. They faced 13-time champions St Paul’s of Auckland. Roman’s team was down 13-0 at the half-time break, but they pulled back the margin to 5 points in the final few minutes of match. The match ended in dramatic fashion with Roman’s team scoring a second try in the last 10 seconds to bring the score to 17-16. It was then down to conversion after the full time siren. Roman’s team converted this goal, and won the title for first time since 2011.
