Roland McKeown, a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman, was born January 20, 1996. As a prospect for Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League, McKeown is currently playing in the American Hockey League (AHL). The Los Angeles Kings selected McKeown in the 50th round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. McKeown, along with a conditional 1st-round pick, was traded to Carolina Hurricanes on February 25, 2015.

McKeown was elected captain of the Frontenacs in the 2014-15 season. McKeown managed to score seven goals and 32 points, but he struggled offensively. McKeown played 65 games. McKeown was limited to one assist in four games in the post-season as the Frontenacs fell to the North Bay Battalion, in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

McKeown was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round, 50th overall, in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On February 25, 2015, McKeown’s NHL rights were traded by the Kings, along with a conditional first round pick, to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Andrej Sekera.

He returned to the Frontenacs in 2015-16, and remained the captain of the team. On November 7, McKeown scored two goals and added an assist in a 5-3 win over the Kitchener Rangers. In 59 games, McKeown scored seven goals and 42 points. In the playoffs, on March 29, McKeown had a goal and four points in a 5-4 win over the Oshawa Generals. In nine post-season games, McKeown scored three goals and 12 points, helping Kingston reach the second round of the OHL playoffs for the first time since 1998.

McKeown had a remarkable +38 rating in 2013-14. He scored 11 goals and 43 points over 62 games. McKeown recorded four assists in the Frontenacs’ first game of the season. It was an 11-4 win over Peterborough Petes. McKeown scored twice and had two assists in an 8-5 victory over the Ottawa 67s on December 20. McKeown was a participant in the 2014 CHL Top Prospects Game at the Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta. He played for Team Cherry and was held without a goal in a 3-3 loss. McKeown scored his first playoff goal in overtime against Andrew D’Agostini, the Peterborough Petes. The Frontenacs beat the Petes 5-4 on March 23. McKeown scored a goal and had four points in seven playoff games as the Frontenacs lost to the Peterborough Petes in quarter-finals of the Eastern Conference.

The Kingston Frontenacs selected McKeown as their second round pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection. McKeown was a part of his first OHL game, September 21st 2012. He got no points in a 3-1 victory over the Barrie Colts. His first OHL career goal was against Matej Machovsky, Brampton Battalion. It was a 4-1 loss. McKeown scored three goals in the season’s final game, scoring a goal and adding two assists against Matej Machovsky of the Brampton Battalion. He made his AHL debut on April 11, getting no points in a 2–0 loss to the Rockford IceHogs. McKeown earned his first career professional point, an assist, the next night, against the IceHogs, in a 4–3 Checkers victory. In four games with Charlotte, McKeown had one assist.
