Roger Victor LaFrancois, an American former professional baseball player, was born August 2, 1956 in Norwich. In 1982, he was a catcher for the Boston Red Sox (MLB). He was 6′ 2″ (1.88 m), 215 lbs (98 kg) tall, and weighed in at 6 feet 2 inch (1.88m). Although he spent the 1982 season with Boston’s MLB roster he was only a third-string catcher behind Gary Allenson, Rich Gedman and Rich Gedman.
LaFrancois served as the hitting coach for State College Spikes, a Short Season-A affiliate to the St. Louis Cardinals, since 2016.
LaFrancois spent two more seasons in minor leagues before he retired as an active player. He has been a manager for the Montreal Expos’ minor league system, and a batting coach at the minor-league level for various organizations as well as the independent league Worcester Tornadoes. He returned to the CCBL in 1986 as the Harwich Mariners’ catcher and pitching coach.

LaFrancois was a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University, University of Connecticut, and University of Oklahoma. He played collegiate baseball in summer with the Orleans Cardinals of Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) between 1975 and 1976. In 1976, he was named a league All-Star. The Red Sox selected him in the eighth round in 1977 MLB Draft. He spent five seasons with their farm system, before being promoted in 1982.
