Luat was the 1996 World Open Nineball Championship winner and has been considered a dark horse in many tournaments.
In his first attempt on the annual circuit, he beat Hsia Hsia-kai 11-7 to win the Taiwan leg in 2006 WPA Asian Nine-ball Tour. He reached the fifth round of the 2006 IPT North American Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. His winnings totaled US$30,000. He reached the third round at the 2006 IPT World Open in Reno, Nevada. There he won US$11,000. He was also runner-up in the 2006 Derby City Nineball Division (winning US$8,000), Bank Division (9th Place, US$850), and One-pocket Division (18th Place, US$500). He was also a quarterfinalist at the 17th WPA World Nineball Championship in Manila, Philippines. This championship saw him win US$10,000 and become the second-best-placed Filipino after Ronato Alcano, the eventual champion.
Nine-ball players who are very skilled can sometimes take four to five balls off the break. Luat sank six of the nine-ball balls at the 2005 APBU/JPBA Japan Open tournament in Tokyo. This was two-thirds off the rack. Note that Alex Pagulayan did a similar feat in a US tournament.
