The two were again in action on 14 July 2007, with Marsh winning the Super Bantamweight title. Marsh defeated Dean twice more, scoring two victories before meeting him for the third. Marsh, now the British Super Bantamweight champion, defeated Dean on 21 November 2008. This was his first defense of the British title at York Hall in London.

Dean defeated Leny Hodgkins in his professional debut at the Royal National Hotel, London on 14 October 1999. After winning his three subsequent contests, he lost to Chris Jickells, a journeyman. Dean didn’t fight in 2001. He returned to the ring in 2002 and won all three of his fights. Dean lost four of six fights in 2003, losing four and drawing twice. Dean had met future Commonwealth champion Isaac Ward twice in 2003 (one draw, one loss), and also met future British champions Martin Power and Michael Hunter. They both lost to Dean. In 2004, Dean won both of his bouts.
Dean defeated Mickey Coveney in 10 rounds for the Southern Area Featherweight title on 5 March 2005 at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre, Dagenham. Dean won the title and was eligible to fight for the English title. However, Dean lost his sixth fight to Andy Morris. Morris would go on to win the British championship. Dean defeated Gary Davies, a novice boxer, in a fourth round stoppage victory on 18 September 2005. Davis was the fourth boxer Dean had fought and would go on to be a full British champion. Dean ended the year traveling to Ukraine to face Andrey Isaev, but lost in the 12th round.
