William Robert Woodall III/’ U d O: l/ was born February 11, 1970. He is an American politician and attorney. Since 2011, he has been the U.S. Rep for Georgia’s 7th congressional District. This district covers most of Gwinnett County which is a wealthy suburban county northeast Atlanta. He is a Republican. He worked from 1994 to 2010 for John Linder, his predecessor in Congress, before becoming Linder’s chief-of-staff. Woodall declared in February 2019 that he will not be seeking reelection for a sixth term.
Woodall was among six House Republicans who didn’t sign Grover Norquist’s “Taxpayer Protection Pledge.” Woodall stated that his commitment to Fair Tax and a commonsense tax overhaul made it impossible for him to support the second part of the Pledge. It states that he must “oppose any net reduction of elimination of deductions or credits unless matched dollar-for-dollar by further reducing taxes rates.”
Woodall addressed the U.S. House on October 26, 2011, calling for reduced regulations on businesses.
In 2012, Woodall won the election with 62.16% of the 252,066 votes cast, against Steve Reilly (D).
Woodall was a cosponsor of the Sanctity of Human Life Act. Woodall voted in October 2011 for legislation that would limit the availability of abortion coverage by private insurance companies on a public exchange.

Woodall was born at Athens in Georgia. Woodall attended both private and public grade schools. He graduated from Marist School in 1989. He earned a B.A. He graduated from Furman University and then went on to law school at University of Georgia School of Law. He worked in Washington, D.C. during summers while he was in law school. After the summer 1994, he left law school to become a U.S. Representative in his hometown. He began as a legislative correspondent, and was eventually named chief of staff for Linder in 2000. Woodall earned his J.D. In 1998, Woodall received his J.D. degree from the University of Georgia School of Law.
Woodall won the Republican Primary with 56% against Jody Hice. In the 2010 General Election, he faced Doug Heckman, a Democrat. Woodall defeated Heckman on November 2, 2010 to win the general elections.

In 2018, Woodall faced Democratic challenger Carolyn Bourdeaux. Woodall was supported by the Great America Committee, a political action committee registered by Vice President Mike Pence. The race proved to be unexpectedly competitive, and Woodall defeated Bourdeaux by only 433 votes after a recount. The race was the closest of the 2018 House elections. It was the closest that a Democrat has come to winning this district since its creation in 1993 (it was numbered as the 4th District from 1993 to 1997, the 11th from 1997 to 2003, and has been the 7th since 2003).
