O’Gara, a free agent with the Rangers, signed a one-year AHL contract on August 20, 2019 with the San Antonio Rampage. This is the primary affiliate of St. Louis Blues. O’Gara, who was a depth option for the blueline, had only five scoreless games with O’Gara in the 2019-20 season. O’Gara was the son of Brian O’Gara and Christine Rittmeyer, who were born on Long Island. O’Gara was a young hockey player for the New York Islanders minor hockey team in the 2006 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. After two seasons at Milton Academy O’Gara entered Yale University to play NCAA Division I hockey for the Yale Bulldogs. O’Gara helped the Bulldogs win the 2012-13 NCAA Championship. This was the Bulldogs’ first national championship. O’Gara was selected to the NCAA All-Ivy League second team the following season. In his junior year, his exceptional play was rewarded by being named ECAC Hockey’s best defensive defenseman and to the NCAA (East), First All- American Team.
O’Gara was signed by the Boston Bruins to a two year, entry-level contract on March 29, 2016. This contract will begin in 2016-17. O’Gara was signed by the Providence Bruins, Boston’s AHL affiliate, to an ATO (amateur trial-out) for the rest of 2015-16.
