Robert Allan Murray, a former professional ice hockey player from Canada, was born April 4, 1967. Murray is currently the head coach for the ECHL’s Tulsa Oilers. Murray was the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons captain for much of his professional career. Murray holds the team record for single-season penalty minutes (373), career assist (157), penalty minute (1529), and games (51). The Falcons have retired his number 23.

Murray retired and was hired by the Providence Bruins as an assistant coach. He was then named their head coach in 2008, following Scott Gordon’s hire by the New York Islanders. After the 2010-11 season, he was fired. He was appointed the Alaska Aces head coach by the ECHL on July 13, 2011. He remained there for six seasons. Three Brabham Cups were won by his Aces teams for their best regular season records, and one Kelly Cup was won for winning the 2014 playoff championship. After the 2016-17 season, he remained with the Aces. In June 2017, he was named the Tulsa Oilers’ head coach.

Murray spent parts of two seasons with the Jets franchise after it moved to Phoenix. He was traded to Edmonton Oilers, but he never played a single game for the team. Murray retired from active play on March 31, 2003.
