Robert McVicar, a Canadian former professional hockey goalie, was born January 15, 1982. He played one game in NHL for the Vancouver Canucks in 2005-06. McVicar was a major junior player for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League, before being selected by Canucks in 2002 NHL Entry Draft. McVicar became a professional hockey player in 2003. He played in the minor American Hockey League, ECHL and was called up to play his lone NHL match against the Edmonton Oilers on December 1, 2005. His appearance lasted 3 minutes. He played in the minor leagues for four more seasons before retiring in 2009 as a stockbroker and financial planner.

McVicar was a member of the ECHL during the 2006-07 season with the Utah Grizzlies. He also played in CHL with Arizona Sundogs during the 2007-2008 seasons. For the 2008-09 season, he signed with Totempo HvIK. His last season was in Germany.

McVicar was a player in the AHL for Manitoba Moose during most of his three seasons. This includes 19 games in the ECHL and 33 games in the ECHL during the 2003-04 season. McVicar also played with the Victoria Salmon Kings in 2005-2006. McVicar also played one game in the NHL during the 2005–2006 season. McVicar played in the NHL for 3 minutes against no shots on his only appearance against the Edmonton Oilers on December 1, 2005.

McVicar was born in Hay River, Northwest Territories. At the age of 4, he moved to Brandon, Manitoba. McVicar modeled himself after his older brother Jason, who played goal. McVicar is a fan of the Brandon Wheat Kings, a minor league team in the Western Hockey League. He was selected in 1997 by them as a bantam draft pick and spent one-year with the club’s midget team.

After playing one season for the Trail Smoke Eaters in the British Columbia Hockey League, McVicar returned to Brandon and was the backup goalie. McVicar was offered a scholarship to University of Maine in 2000. However, the NCAA ruled McVicar ineligible so he returned to Brandon in November 2001. McVicar was one of three goalies on the team and played a limited role in the season. However, he was named the starting goalie for the 2001-02 season. McVicar was drafted 151st by Vancouver Canucks as the 2002 NHL Entry Draft’s 151st pick. However, McVicar remained in Brandon for one more year before becoming a professional.
