Robert Christopher “Rob” Austin, a British racing driver, was born 1 February 1981. He competed in the British Touring Car Championship. He was born in Evesham (Worcestershire).

Rob Austin Racing signed Mark Hazell as the team’s Audi A4 driver for the 2012 season. Austin was the only entry to the Brands Hatch Indy season opener. He was eighth in the opening race and fifth in the two subsequent races. Austin was the only driver of the team for Donington Park or Thruxton after Brands Hatch. Austin was absent from the Oulton Park meeting, while Will Bratt, series debutant and 2009 Euroseries 3000 winner, was the only entrant to the Cheshire venue. He was back in the car to finish race two at Croft and took his second podium finish. He couldn’t afford to race at Knockhill so he missed the event. However, he returned to Rockingham to drive the car. After colliding with Daniel Welch, he was disqualified from Silverstone’s third race. He was fighting for second place. Austin was awarded a title sponsor at Brands Hatch for the season finale. His car would be decorated with a unique NASCAR-inspired livery for Wix Filters.

Austin appeared in the Ron Howard film Rush (2013), portraying Brett Lunger and driving his Surtees TS19, which is owned by his father for racing in historic events.

Austin confirmed his return in 2013 with the team running under the WIX Filters banner. Austin led early on in the first race of the season at Brands Hatch, he was then passed by Jason Plato and eventually finished third behind Andrew Jordan. He retired from the following two races, in race three he was collected by Dave Newsham who had spun and Austin had a high speed collision with the barriers before coming to a rest in the middle of the track. He took his first pole position in the BTCC at the Knockhill round. He took his first outright win at the next event at Rockingham; he took victory in race two ahead of Gordon Shedden. After that he only scored 11 more points for the rest of the year, finishing 11th in the standings.

Austin replaced David Pinkney as the British Touring Car Championship’s driver in 2011, following Pinkney’s departure. For his own team, he competed in an Audi A4 NGTC specification. Austin finished a career-best fourth at Knockhill, but he retired in the first race. In the third race at Rockingham, Austin finished second to James Nash and took his maiden podium place. He finished the season 16th with one podium finish, one fastest lap.
