Richard “Rick” Nasheim, a Canadian-Austrian professional hockey coach, was born January 15, 1963 in Regina (Saskatchewan). He is also a former professional hockey player. Since June 2017, he has been the assistant coach for the Austrian team Dornbirner EC.
He was the assistant coach for Austria’s EBEL side Vienna Capitals during the 2015-16 season. After that, he was an analyst for Sky TV in Austria. After having been a pro scout in the team’s previous months, Nasheim was appointed assistant coach of EBEL Dornbirner EC team in June 2017.
His pro career began at the EHC Klostersee in Germany’s second division. He would then spend most of his time in Austria. He was a VEU Feldkirch player for 13 years, with stints at Swiss EHC Uzwil and two other Austrian clubs Wiener EV (and EHC Linz). He won five Austrian championships in his career with Feldkirch, and one with Linz. He won four Alpenliga titles and the 1997-98 European Hockey League title in 1997-98. In 2004, Nasheim was retired.

Nasheim began his career in Canada. He played for the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BCJHL. After that, he was drafted into the WHL with the Spokane Chiefs, and the Regina Pats. The 1985-86 season was spent at the University of Regina.
In 1990, Nasheim was made an Austrian citizen and was therefore eligible to play for Austria’s national team. He was a participant at the 1998 and 1994 Olympic Winter Games, as well as nine World Championships.
Nasheim began his coaching career at assistant at EHC Linz in Austria’s top- flight. He remained in that position until the end of the 2009-10 season and then accepted an offer from ERC Ingolstadt of the German elite league Deutsche Eishockey Liga. When the Ingolstadt team sacked Rich Chernomaz in December 2012, Nasheim took over as head coach on an interim basis. For the 2007 World Championships, he joined the coaching staff of the Austrian national team as an assistant.
