Richard John Blakey, born 15 January 1967 in Huddersfield (Yorkshire, England), is an ex-English cricketer who participated in three ODIs and two Tests between 1992 and 1993.
His highest score of 223 runs, which he scored using only 206 balls and 35 fours, was against Northamptonshire in 2003. It was a reminder of what could have been if he had been allowed to focus on his batting. After helping the second team for many seasons, he was appointed Second XI captain in 2004 and manager in 2005. He was then released in 2006. He also wrote a humorous autobiography, titled Taking It From Behind.
His first full county season was a success, but his batting form began to suffer from the additional responsibility he was assigned behind the stumps. He then started batting lower down the order. Blakey was a Yorkshire legend in all forms of the game from 2000 to 2000. He took 778 wickets and completed 57 stumpings in 347 games. He scored 14,674 runs at 31.42.

Blakey was first a Yorkshire batsman, and then he became the county’s gloveman. After scoring a double century in Zimbabwe for England A, his future as a specialist cricketer seemed bright when he was named Cricket Writers Club Young Cricketer-of-the Year in 1987.
