He also played for one season with the Detroit Red Wings. He became a successful broadcaster, coach, and harness racer after his retirement.

In 1994, he returned to coaching with the Utica Blizzard in Colonial Hockey League. He led the team to a 31-35-8 record and a loss in the first round of the playoffs. Seiling also wore the Blades in an emergency, but did not record a point.

Seiling was sent to Adirondack Redwings of the American Hockey League in 1987-88. He retired as a coach-assistant after one season.

At 16 years old, Seiling joined the Hamilton Fincups in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League’s 1974-75 season. Seiling spent three seasons in the franchise, which was moved to St. Catharines, in 1976. He scored 117 goals and assisted with 142 assists in 189 regular-season games. The Fincups participated in the 1976 Memorial Cup. Seiling scored three goals and nine assists in three games, which was the highest total of all players and earned him a spot on the Memorial Cup all star team.

The Buffalo Sabres drafted Seiling 14th overall in the 1977 NHL amateur draft. Seiling played in all 80 games of his rookie season 1977-78, scoring 19 goals with 19 assists and 38 points. Seiling’s goal total increased over the next three seasons. He reached a career high of 30 goals in 1980-81. After five more seasons playing with the Sabres he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in October 1986. This was his last year in the NHL. His career totals 179 goals, 208 assists and 387 points. He also earned 573 penalty minutes. He had 28 points and scored 14 goals in 62 playoff games.

During the inaugural season of the NWHL’s Buffalo Beauts, Seiling was the co- coach along with Shelley Looney. For the 2016–17 Buffalo Beauts season, Seiling was named the general manager. He was fired on December 7, 2018.
