Hanbury had a great Crusaders season 2010. Hanbury was first picked against Wakefield Trinity and scored his first two tries in the Carnegie Challenge Cup against York City Knights. Hanbury was the joint top scorer for 2010 with 12 tries. He had only 20 appearances, four fewer than Vince Mellars, who was joint top scorer.

Rhys made his Wests Tigers debut against the North Queensland Cowboys in Round 2. Star Benji Marshall was hurt in Round 1, but Hanbury still helped the Tigers to a convincing 30-10 win. Hanbury also made 19 appearances in the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He crossed the line four times. The Tigers did not make it to the NRL Finals either time and Hanbury signed with the Crusaders in 2010 for the season.
Rhys made his grade debut against Penrith Panthers for the South Sydney Rabbitohs. He only made two appearances for the club. One was a loss, one was a draw. He was released and was transferred to Wests Tigers NRL 2008.
