However, 2011 was not to his liking. He was plagued by injuries and made only ten appearances, scoring four tries. After the withdrawal of the Welsh club from Super League, it was announced that he would be moving to Widnes with team mates Frank Winterstein and Lloyd White for the 2012 season.

Hanbury had a great Crusaders season 2010. Hanbury was first picked against Wakefield Trinity and scored his first two tries in the Carnegie Challenge Cup against York City Knights. Hanbury was the joint top scorer for 2010 with 12 tries. He had only 20 appearances, four fewer than Vince Mellars, who was joint top scorer.
