Commonly known as “The gentleman of the Magic World”, Reid Duke began playing at the age of five with his brother Ian Duke. He is currently a member of the Magic: The Gathering R&D at Wizards of the Coast. He was initially a Magic: The Gathering Online play, but he made the switch to competitive in-person play. He was rated to Pro Tour Amsterdam 2010. He won the Magic Online Championship Series (MOCS), which qualified him for the 2010 Magic Online World Championship. In Chiba, Japan, he placed 5th. Although his results in the first Pro Tours were not spectacular, he has never missed a Pro Tour since Amsterdam 2010.

The 2013-14 season started well for Duke, who won his second Grand Prix at GP Miami. Duke won the Swiss rounds of 2013 World Championship and finished in first before the knockout rounds. In the semifinals, Duke met Josh Utter Leyton and defeated him 3-2. He was considered a strong favorite against Shahar Shenhar and took a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 match. However, Shenhar won the final match 3-2 to win an upset. Duke took second place at the event. After achieving a Grand Prix top 8 finish in Detroit, Barcelona, and Philadelphia, he finally achieved a Pro Tour top eight performance. Duke was fifth at Pro Tour Journey into Nyx, Atlanta. He lost in the quarterfinals against Yuuki Ichikawa. He was poised to win the 2013-14 Player Of The Year title at this point. However, Jeremy Dezani won it. Owen Turtenwald, his teammate, was also able to take over the captainship of America’s national team at 2014 World Magic Cup. This was when Dezani finished in the top eight in the final event of this season, Pro Tour Magic 2015.

Duke did not have a good experience at the 2012 Magic Players Championship. He finished last with a 2-10 record. Duke set out to make amends for his failure and qualified for next year’s event. He even wrote down all the mistakes he made during the tournament. He qualified for the World Championship after he placed 9th at Pro Tour Dragon’s Maze San Diego. This was thanks to his three Grand Prix top 8 finishes in Charleston, San Antonio, and Quebec City. He was able to finish the 2012-13 season with 52 Pro Points. This earned him Platinum membership in Pro Players Club.
