Harrison was born in Arlington, Virginia. He played running back for Washington-Lee High School. He scored six touchdowns in the traditional “Old Oaken Bucket” game against Alexandria, Virginia’s rival George Washington High School. He graduated in 1969 and played at the University of Cincinnati until he was drafted by the NFL, in 1974.
Harrison was the Steelers only healthy running back in 1976’s AFC championship match against the Oakland Raiders. The Steelers lost 24-7 to the Raiders after Harrison ran 44 yards and scored a touchdown.
